Let us take you an on a journey of deep self-care this spring with touch, sound and soul.
Each Spa journey at Chakana is designed to reset the para-sympathetic nervous system, transport you to a place of deep relaxation and calm. Our packages are a combination of our best offerings, merging holistic facial, bodywork and sound healing.
What does self-care really mean?
It’s the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.
It’s protecting one’s own well-being and happiness in times of stress.
But how do we do this?
We are not one dimensional beings. Sometimes it’s not easy to work out what part of us needs care. Our circumstances often reveal to us how well we are doing on our own self-care scale.
But the next step in taking action is knowing what sort of self-care we need to help us stay aligned with wellness.
At Chakana we talk about self-care as taking care of the whole you. The physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and soul being that you are.
We work with all of these parts of you, within a framework of healing. Through touch, scent, sound and often in conversation too. We tend to the parts of you that transcend the superficial.
The most potent part of our offerings is by far the moment within our treatment rooms when our clients land within the centre of their own sacred knowing. And walk away with a clear understanding of what it is in this moment in time within their life that needs tending to the most.
If self-care is anything, it is simply knowing how and what needs to be tended to in any given moment as life continues to present its challenges.
If tiredness, overwhelm, or simply some time out is calling you or a loved one. Book in for one of our spa journeys. Allow us to help clear the pathway to the right part of you that needs tending. You won’t regret it.
Within a conversation on self-care, how can one not mention the sun!
It’s spring, it’s within our primal nature to want to bask in it.
There can be so much fear around it, but sensible sun exposure is crucial to our wellbeing. We need it.
It enables our body to make Vitamin D from cholesterol in our skin cells.
It also also helps us sleep better by maintaining our body’s circadian rhythm. Being in bright sunlight in the morning can increases our melatonin levels, this helps us sleep when it gets dark.
Lack of sunlight can result in lower serotonin levels, which can contribute to depression and general low vibes.
So how do we get enough of it?
Make sensible sun exposure a part of your self-care ritual.
Take some focused time every day between 10am and 1pm.
At this time you will get plenty of UVB rays, which allow your body to create vitamin D, while minimising UVA rays.
Lighter skin tones need less time than darker skin tones.
10 to 15 minutes for lighter skin, 25 to 40 minutes for darker skin.
And create a ritual of aftercare by keeping the skin hydrated after a good sun soaking. Grab one of our Chakana Body Balms and introduce daily dry body brushing to lift dry/dead skin cells.
Mardi continues to lull clients into a speechless sombre with the sonic symphonies created within her Sound healing treatments and Soundbaths.
The introduction of sound over the last few years at Chakana has given us another gateway, beyond touch, to offer a deeper and potentially faster way to reach a state of deep relaxation within our treatment rooms.
The sound vibrations of gongs, singing bowls and tuning forks can actually alter your brainwave frequencies. Shifting from the beta state (normal consciousness) to the theta state (relaxed consciousness) and even the delta state (sleeping).
How incredible is that!
So for all those still a little unsure of how potent sound vibration can be for relaxation, read on.
Physiologically there is a lot taking place when sound-waves move through us. The vestibulocochlear nerve, (which is in our ear) connects to the vagus nerve, which is the major parasympathetic nerve in the body, responsible for ‘rest and digest’.
The Vagus nerve helps control hormone release, digestion, blood glucose levels, inflammation, heart rate, and blood pressure, and there’s a little branch of the vagus nerve that goes right to the eardrum.
It vibrates in response to sound waves.
So that means that every sound that you process through your ears sends that information to the vagus nerve.
Stimulating it with the right sound frequencies simply does wonders for our heath.
If nothing more than resetting the nervous system from the sympathetic/ fight-or-flight to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and promoting relaxation.
As for the rest, sound really its a felt thing, it cant be intellectualised. It is something that just has to be experienced to feel its affects.
So what are you waiting for?
