May at Chakana – Mother’s Day

God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.” – often attributed to Rudyard Kipling

May is for Mothers at Chakana!

And there are so many ways to speak about motherhood. To honour the mother!

But let’s face it – most of them fall short. Because motherhood isn’t one thing.

It isn’t just the woman with a newborn, or the one holding a toddler on her hip. It’s the mother with teenagers, learning when to hold and when to let go. The one whose children have left, and the house is quieter than she expected. The one caring for ageing parents, while still carrying everyone else. The one who has lost a child. The one who has lost her own mother. The one who longed to be a mother, and couldn’t.

It doesn’t sit in one place. It moves. It changes. It asks different things of you, over time.

And it doesn’t belong only to women.

Every man comes from a mother. Many partners live alongside one. Every family is shaped by one in some way.

Motherhood is one of the most powerful forces we move within – whether it’s gentle, complicated, present, or absent.

And yet, in all its forms, there is something that runs through it for each of us.

For Mothers, it’s the act of holding, of giving, (often without being asked) of staying, when it would be easier to step back. Of continuing, even when something in you is tired.

We see it every day here at Chakana. Not labelled. Not announced. But in the women who walk through the door, carrying more than they say.

Mother’s Day is the day we pause and acknowledge it in a way that says – we see you – and catch the moment to say thankyou.

Treatment Spotlight – Mother’s Embrace

Motherhood is a series of thresholds. An entry. A becoming. A letting go. A return.
And the body carries all of it.

Mother’s Embrace was created to meet that in whatever chapter – whether that’s preparing to become a mother, recovering from birth, raising children, or moving through the quieter, often less spoken stages that follow.

It begins through the face, with gentle, restorative work to soothe and bring attention back into the body. A sculpting massage focuses through the jaw – a place where so much is held, creating space not just physically, but throughout the system.

From there, the body is grounded.

A foot massage to support circulation and settle the nervous system.

A cranial and scalp massage to soften the constant movement of thought, the quiet exhaustion that often sits beneath the surface.

And then, sound. Not as an addition, but as a way of holding everything that’s come before it.

Allowing the body to drop into a deeper state of rest, where nothing is required.

This is not just for new mothers.

It’s for the woman who has been holding for a long time.

The woman in transition.

The woman who gives, often without noticing how much.

A space where, for once, she is the one being held.

Product Spotlight – Mother’s Day Gifting

If you’ve been to Chakana, you’ll know this – the experience doesn’t end when you leave.

Our product range was created to hold onto that.

Ascend Scent & Sound Collection –

The oils, mists and perfumes you choose before your treatment.

Not with your mind. With feeling.

Each blend is paired with sound. Designed to calm the nervous system and bring you back to centre.

Something return to, long after the treatment has finished.

Skincare Collection –

Our skincare works the same way we do.

Not aggressive. Not surface-level.

Five ranges – Brighten, Balance, Renew, Restore, Ageless – designed to support the skin while the body finds its way back into balance.

Something actually to use with intention. Something that becomes part of a daily rhythm.

Body Collection –

This is where it becomes simple.

Shampoo & Conditioner. Bath salts. Body wash. Body balm.

Not complicated. Just done properly.

Botanical ingredients. Mineral-rich salts. Essential oils that ground and settle the system.

Everyday care, elevated into something you actually feel.

All a beautiful gift for the woman who may not have time to come in. Or something to add to a treatment or gift already wrapped.

A mist at the end of the day. An oil before sleep. A small moment that belongs only to her.

A Note from Mardi

I’ve seen so many versions of motherhood in these rooms.

Women arriving with new babies. Women arriving after loss. Women who have held families together for decades. Women who are still finding their way through what that word means to them.

And one thing sits underneath all of it.

There is a part of them that keeps giving.

Even when they’re tired. Even when they don’t say it out loud.

I wrote something recently that keeps coming back to me:

“A mother’s love… how can you describe it. To fall in a mother’s love – for the child, protected, wild. The deepest love of all is a mother’s love.”

It’s not something you can fully explain. But you can feel when it’s there. And you can feel when it’s been stretched.

That’s why this work at Chakana matters, because when a woman has a moment to come back to herself – to feel steady again – it doesn’t just stay with her.

It moves outward. Into her family. Her relationships. The way she meets the world. That ripple is real.
