We were delighted to host Kirstie Clements, the former Editor-In-Chief of Vogue, an accomplished author, journalist, and speaker, for Mard’s Ascend treatment. Kirstie generously offered us a glimpse into her transformative experience. So, make yourself comfortable and scroll to read her reflections…
As a former beauty editor, you’ve delved into countless beauty treatments. Could you share your initial impressions of your sound healing treatment with Mardi?
Kirstie: Indeed, having journeyed through various beauty treatments, the encounter with Mardi’s Ascend sound healing was an entirely new experience. The journey begins with a soothing conversation, enveloped by an ambience of serenity and warmth. What unfolds is beyond anticipation—Mardi guides you through a seamless fusion of sound therapy, singing, and celestial music. It’s an amazing treatment. Mardi customises it for each client and it’s very different to anything that’s out there.
The concept of sound healing is known for its focus on relaxation and well-being. Did it meet your expectations, or did you step into the session with a preconceived notion?
Kirstie: To be honest, I ventured into the session with no expectations at all. Mardi’s approach is incredibly intuitive. She navigates the treatment, seamlessly intertwining sound therapy with conversation, touch, and a fragrant journey. I think she’s very finely attuned on how to build the experience. You get in this very sort of celestial spot where Mardi starts singing like an angel, and it’s just like, whoa. You’re in outer space at that point.
It sounds like Mardi’s approach is both holistic and intuitive. How did the treatment’s sensory elements contribute to your overall experience?
Kirstie: It’s an organic unfolding treatment that defies explanation—a deeply unique and moving experience. As the session progresses, scents take you deeper into relaxation. The massage, accompanied by sound bowls and music, creates a sense of transcendence. It’s an overwhelming experience of multi-sensory immersion, of touch, scent, and sound.
Amid the world of beauty treatments, often centred on outer transformations, how do you think Mardi’s healing session contributes to a holistic sense of beauty and self-care?
Kirstie: Mardi’s approach is refreshingly different. The emphasis isn’t solely on external changes, but rather an internal, holistic journey. Mardi tunes into your unique needs, intertwining conversation, touch, and sound in a way that resonates deeply within. It makes your treatment an experience of discovery. I don’t think you could explain the feeling, wouldn’t make sense to anybody. It’s literally ‘you have to be there’ to understand it.
It’s fascinating how Mardi’s treatment goes beyond the surface. Did the experience evoke any emotions or leave you feeling different in any way?
Kirstie:Walking away from the session, I just felt happy. I didn’t go because I had any particular issues or wasn’t very stressed but I left feeling elevated, and quite uplifted. Now I can lie down and spray the scent I chose for my treatment and go straight back to where Mardi took me. I had a really bad headache the other day, and I laid down with a meditation tape and I sprayed the spray, and I just completely relaxed.
What was your favourite part of the treatment?
I suppose my favourite part was that the treatment felt super feminine and very nurturing. You always hear this talk of angels and goddesses, I feel Mardi really does tap into that. She’s very genuine and it’s like she’s not just doing it for the business, I feel she genuinely cares about her clients.
Would you recommend Mardi’s sound healing treatment to others?
Kirstie: Absolutely! I haven’t shut up about it. I haven’t stopped telling my friends about this amazing place and this celestial, very personlised treatment.
It’s clear that Mardi’s sanctuary has left a lasting impression. In all your encounters with treatments, have you ever come across anything quite like this?
Kirstie: Mardi’s sanctuary is a realm of its own, it’s very personal. The blend of sound, touch, scent, and intuition is unparalleled. While other treatments might have merits, Mardi’s artistry transcends the ordinary. Her holistic approach and angelic touch create an experience that’s truly one of a kind.
Would you revisit Chakana for another treatment?
Kirstie: Without a doubt, I’d love to visit Chakana again, it’s like a sanctuary. All the muslin and bleached wood is beautiful. You get the vibe the minute you walk in. The experience is definitely worth the drive to Avalon. I’d even consider organising a weekend getaway so could I book in another treatment.
